First look: Motorola Triumph (on Virgin Mobile)

Friday, June 10, 2011

The Motorola Triumph is Virgin Mobile's first smartphone from Motorola. It runs Android version 2.2 (Froyo), so it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of their other Sprint offering announced today, but appears to be an attractive option for customers on Sprint's prepaid Virgin Mobile plans.

In recent months we've seen Virgin Mobile expand into the middle ground of the smartphone space, and the Motorola Triumph is no exception. The handset has a boxy shape with relatively sharp corners, but is slim and has a smooth finish. A 1Ghz processor powers the 4.1-inch touch screen as well as output to an HDTV via the micro HDMI port.

The Triumph features two cameras, a 5MP option on the back for photos and smaller VGA optics on the front of the device for video chat. Its memory can be expanded by up to 32GB via the micro SD card slot, and it will come pre-loaded with Virgin Mobile Live 2.0, Virgin's branded music stream.

Including the Photon 4G, XPRT and i1, Motorola and Sprint hope to have "more than 10" devices released together by year's end.
