LG Optimus L5 E610 officially debuts in Europe this month, will have dual SIM capabilities in some markets

Announced in February, at the same time with the Optimus L7 and Optimus L3 (which are already available), the LG Optimus L5 E610 is finally ready to be released around the world.

According to LG, the L5 will make its debut this month in Europe - first in Germany, the UK, and France. After that, the smartphone will be introduced in the CIS, the Middle East, Asia, and Latin America.

Part of the L-Style series, the L5 measures 118.3 x 66.5 x 9.5 mm, runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and features a 4 inch HVGA (480 x 320) display, HSDPA, Wi-Fi, GPS, NFC, 5MP rear camera, 800MHz processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal memory, and MicroSD card support. In some markets (Asia and Latin America), the Optimus L5 will have dual SIM capabilities.

The price of the Optimus L5 hasn't been announced. Amazon Germany says the handset cost €199 - but the final price will certainly be lower, since the Optimus L7 (which has more advanced features) currently costs €199, too.

LG Optimus 4X HD set for European launch this month, have some “major surprise” too

 The 4.7 inch, Tegra 3 powered Optimus 4X HD looks set for launch in Europe this month. LG will be bringing the device to Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Great Britain and Italy first, and also have some “major surprise” regarding the launch itself. They do have their work cut out in publicizing it, though, with the Euro 2012 football (or soccer, if you prefer) tournament going on.

LG renames Optimus LTE to Optimus True HD LTE, disses Samsung's HD Super AMOLED

While the Optimus LTE's already made its way to South Korea, Japan and the US (in the guise of the Spectrum and the Nitro HD), LG's decided to give this dual-core handset a new name ahead of its Hong Kong launch at the end of this month. Ladies and gentlemen, meet the Optimus True HD LTE. Alas, the "true HD" part here doesn't actually mean the phone's getting 1080p resolution on a 4.5-inch panel (which would be 490ppi; yet Toshiba's actually done it!); but we were told that 'tis really just a dig at Samsung's HD Super AMOLED technology - you know, the magic behind that 4.65-inch screen on the Galaxy Nexus and the Galaxy S II HD LTE.Simply put, LG doesn't think that 1,280 x 720 on PenTile counts as HD due to the lower number of sub-pixels; and while it's at it, the company also criticized AMOLED's over-expressed colors and higher power consumption in "normal user environment" - for the latter, LG showed that its AH-IPS has a more consistent power consumption across varying levels of overall whiteness. You can see the relevant slides after the break.Of course, we've already expressed (twice) how much we like the HD Super AMOLED display on the Galaxy Nexus. The clearness issue now is much less noticeable when compared to the original Super AMOLED; but as for color accuracy, many of us are indeed deceived by the vibrancy that we naturally enjoy - except when you need to inspect photos, of course. Regardless, we're pretty sure that it's only a matter of time before Samsung strikes back with a, ahem, "true HD" Super AMOLED (Plus) panel - hopefully in time for the upcoming Galaxy S III.

LG Admits Lying For a Year about Optimus 2X

Since the LG Optimus 2X was launched about a year back right up until yesterday, LG has been lying about one specification on the device. The purported lie took place in LG's homeland, South Korea where the official specifications were jotted down and printed for all prospective buys to read and enjoy along with their spanking new devices fitted with a camera that came with a Xenon flash. Well apparently it wasn't a Xenon flash, just a normal LED flash that comes with smartphones all the time nowadays. Xenon flash units are typically found in standalone digital cameras and are much better to take pictures with but the reason why smartphone manufacturers don't use the flash (bar the Nokia N8 and a few others) as part of their device is because they need more power, occupy more space, they're more expensive and they can't be used as lighting for video since it can only function for short periods of time before recharging. LG has apologized for its 'mistake' and vowed that something like this will not happen again. Many users who have found out about this discrepancy have taken it upon themselves and requested refunds from LG claiming that they bought the product based on what had clearly been false advertising. Thus far, more than 400,000 units of the device have been sold in South Korea so far.

LG LS831 is a Windows Phone headed to Sprint

LG clearly seems intent on launching some Windows Phones this year, after it stayed pretty much out of the game in 2011. Earlier today, we showed you the LG E740H, codenamed Miracle, which is on its way to Telus in Canada. But what about the US? Well, luckily, LG has you covered. Especially if your carrier of choice is Sprint. An LG LS831 just passed through the rigorous testing over at the FCC, and it's headed to the Now Network. That's because the LS831 supports 800 MHz CDMA, which only Sprint uses in the US, according to Phone Scoop. There's also a document that was sent to the FCC called ‘Sprint Nextel Waiver', further sealing the deal. From what we were able to gather by looking at the above images (and through the docs that made it to the FCC), the LG LS831 will run Windows Phone (obviously), and it will have a 5 MP rear camera, a secondary front-facing camera for video calls, a 3.5 mm headset jack, a microUSB port, and Bluetooth support.

LG LS831 goes back to FCC, reveals 5MP camera, Sprint intentions

Sprint's been kept pretty quiet on the Windows Phone front, but it looks like the Now Network is getting back into the game. Well, at least soon. The LG LS831 has made a return visit to the FCC, this time showing some visible hardware. That includes a Sprint-only 800MHz CDMA radio (with support for 1900 MHz), a front-facing camera and a 5-megapixel primary shooter on the back. Now that the FCC's given its nod of approval, we can start the guessing game for what Sprint will eventually christen the device.

LG Viper 4G will be Sprint's first LTE device, pre-orders begin April 12

Sprint is ready to get things rolling on their 4G LTE network with the announcement of pricing and pre-order details for the LG Viper. The handset, which we first got our hands on at CES in January, is an Android 2.3 device with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and 4-inch WVGA display. It also carries a 5MP camera, 4GB of internal storage, and 1GB of RAM. With NFC support, the Viper will ship with Google Wallet support. The Viper 4G is being touted for its eco-friendly features, but it also takes it easy on the wallet. Sprint announces LG Viper 4G LTE pricing and availability

This is hardly a surprise, given the fact that the first time we heard about this particular device was its actual unveiling during CES three months ago. Finally, Sprint Wireless announced the pricing and availability of the carrier's first LTE smartphone - the LG Viper 4G LTE. The mid-range Android smartphone will be available for pre-order on April 12 for $99.99 with a two-year commitment, after a $50 mail-in rebate. The above mentioned amount will get you a dual-core CPU, clocked at 1.2GHz, 4" WVGA screen, a gig of RAM, 5MP, and some eco-friendly cachet. The OS on tap will be Android 2.3 Gingerbread. NFC will also be on board alongside the LTE network connectivity. All in all, the LG Viper 4G LTE can hardly qualify as the most memorable way to kick off the start of an LTE network. The latest was Fido with FidoTRADE, basically mimicking what Best Buy and Future Shop have in their stores. Now TELUS is rolling out their initiative called the TELUS "Trade-In Program". TELUS has partnered with eRecyclingCorps and the premise is similar - new or existing customers can take an old, unwanted, handset or accessory and depending on its condition you'll get a certain dollar amount. LG keeps on announcing new handsets this week, and today the company has introduced what will be its flagship Android smartphone this year: the LG Optimus 4X HD (previously known as LG X3). The Optimus 4X HD is the official successor to the Optimus 2X, announced in early 2011 as the world's first dual-core smartphone. The new handset comes with a 1.5GHz quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, 4.7 inch True IPS display with 1280 x 720 pixels, 8MP rear camera with backside illumination sensor, 1.3MP front-facing camera, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of on-board memory, and a 2,150 mAh battery. More details about the Optimus 4X HD, including pricing and availability, will be unveiled at MWC in Barcelona in a few days. The Korean company has already announced a myriad of devices, and now we even get videos of three of them, and a fourth has starred in a comprehensive photo shoot. The LG Optimus 4X HD, undoubtedly LG's flagship smartphone for the coming months, has been officially unveiled earlier today. LG Korea has unveiled the new LG Optimus Vu, which is a combination of a smartphone and a tablet. Measuring 139.6mm x 90.4mm x 8.5mm, this LTE smartphone is powered by the Google Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS (upgradeable to Android 4.0 ICS). The LG Optimus Vu is equipped with a 5-inch (1024 x 768) IPS display with a 4:3 aspect ratio, a fast 1.5GHz dual-core processor, a 32GB of internal memory, a 1GB of RAM, an 8MP rear-facing camera, a 1.3MP front-facing camera for video calls, a 2,080mAh battery and a “Rubberdium” pen. Boasting LTE and IPS display technology, the LG Optimus Vu delivers a generous screen size that would definitely be pleasing to your eyes – could 5″ be the new 4.3″? We do know that the LG Optimus Vu is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, sporting 32GB of internal memory, and to make sure that it does not run out of juice so soon after you have left your home, it is packed with a large 2,080 mAh battery. The 5″ display comes with a bright 4:3 aspect ratio that has been specially optimized for portable viewing, letting your eyes grasp more visuals at a glance, not to mention note taking being a snap. As for its IPS display, every color is realized in its natural state, delivering the best viewing experience even under bright sunlight.
