HTC Salsa ditches Facebook button for Weibo in China

Tuesday, July 26, 2011

HTC certainly knows well enough not to bite the hand that feeds them, and the move to replace the Facebook button with that of Weibo, a micro-blogging Web service in China, on the HTC Salsa is a logical one – after all, Facebook is banned in that part of the world, never mind that Mark Zuckerberg has been taking time to learn the Chinese language and perhaps, hoping to crack the market eventually. Said Facebook button has been replaced by Sina Weibo, where it has been renamed to 'Weike' ( 微客 ). According to HTC, the HTC Weike was specially designed just for the Chinese market, where it will cost an equivalent of $524 after conversion, albeit being an unlocked model, of course.

Everything else about the hardware specifications seem to be the same as that of the HTC Salsa apart from the replaced Facebook button, of course. I wonder how many people living there will pick up this smartphone to get their social networking kicks on-the-go.

Pressing the dedicated Sina Weibo button will allow the user to go straight to the Weibo post writing interface, making it a snap to update the rest of the world with your activities with but a few clicks and keystrokes.
