News Update :

Verizon Motorola Droid 2 Global price drops to $149.99 possibly making way for the Droid 3

Wednesday, June 8, 2011

Verizon has decided to cut the price it asks for the Droid 2 Global by Motorola by $50, making the Android-powered world phone now available for just $149.99 with a new two-year contract. Since its launch last year, the Droid 2 Global has seen a lot of interesting deals and cut prices, but this is the first time that Big Red itself has changed the amount it asks for this device.

That may just mean that the Droid 2 Global has reached that phase in its life when the price needs to be discounted a bit to keep the phone interesting to consumers. Or, TmoNews speculates, the price drop may signify that the launch of the rumored Motorola Droid 3 may be imminent.

Verizon is known to drop prices on older devices to allow new handsets to be priced at the ‘standard' $199.99 with new two-year contract. That's even what happened when the Droid 2 Global appeared in the carrier's portfolio. And after leaking so many times during the past few weeks, the Droid 3 surely is quite close to its release.
