News Update :

Cellcom Samsung Galaxy S Showcase, Motorola Milestone X will be updated to Android 2.3 Gingerbread

Thursday, June 9, 2011

Good news for those of you who are customers of regional carrier Cellcom! The company has announced that two of its high-end Android smartphones, the Samsung Galaxy S Showcase (which is basically Cellcom's version of the now-ubiquitous Galaxy S) as well as the Motorola Milestone X (this is the name under which the Droid X is sold by carriers other than Verizon, which is the only one that can use the Droid brand in this context) will be updated to Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

Both phones now run Android 2.2 Froyo, the previous version of Google's mobile operating system. Unfortunately, what you just read above is the entire extent of the information we have right now. Cellcom says:

“At this time there have not been testing timelines established, so we do not have any indication as to when the updates will be available.”

So there you have it. Cellcom's Galaxy S and Milestone X will get Android 2.3 Gingerbread updates. At some point. In the future. Yes, there still is probably a lot of patience needed, nay, demanded of you by your carrier if you own one of these devices. On the other hand, at least now you know for sure that an update will come your way. Eventually. You just can't have it all, it seems.
